"We ought to have a chart of some kind," said John. "It'll probably be all wrong and it won't have the right names. We'll make up our own names, of course." (Swallows and Amazons).

The maps in Arthur Ransome's five Lakeland novels are just some of their many pleasures. Each reveals something more about Arthur Ransome's imaginative re-working of the real geography of the English Lake District:

"The country is the country of my own childhood ... Then there has to be a little pulling about of rivers and roads, but every single place in those books exists somewhere and by now I know the geography of the country in the books so well that when I walk about in actual fact, it sometimes seems to me as if some giant or earthquake has been doing a little scene shifting overnight." (Arthur Ransome, writing in the Junior Bookshelf magazine, in 1936).

Our combined map, originally created for the benefit of modern day explorers using our Swallows and Amazons explorer app, uses elements from all five novels: Swallows and Amazons, Swallowdale, Winter Holiday, Pigeon Post and The Picts and the Martyrs.

Our mounted print illustrations measure approximately 24cm x 18cm. They are printed on 190gm, acid free watercolour paper and mounted in a 16" x 12" (approx 40.0 x 31.0cm) textured white mount, with a 1.25mm white backing board. Each mounted print is enclosed in a cellophane wrapper for protection.

Please note that the mount colour is shown darker than the actual product for clarity.

The mount is suitable for framing in a 16" x 12" frame of your choice (not included).

Ways to order

UK customers may order online or by mail order.

If you are in Australia, Canada, Japan, New Zealand or the USA, you can place online orders with a combined product weight of 1.85kg or less.

We regret that we do not currently process larger orders from these countries, or any orders from other countries, online. However, you can order by sending us an overseas order enquiry.

Payment

We can take payment via credit and debit cards, or via Paypal. UK mail orders may pay by cheque. Cheques must be crossed and made payable to “Arthur Ransome Trust”.

Dispatch

We will process and post your order as soon as possible. In most cases delivery should be within 3 – 4 business days for UK customers and 6 – 8 days elsewhere overseas. But please note that our shop is not staffed 24 hours per day, or 365 days each year (we need some time off for enjoyable Ransome adventures, after all). It is always possible that your order will coincide with our being half way to Wild Cat Island or at an ART event. Please therefore allow up to 28 days for delivery.
